2. Mary Watson’s Death

In the Sherlock Holmes canon, Mary Watson has to die. It is just the way it is. We weren’t sure if it was going to happen in Moffat’s version of the story but then the first episode of the fourth season confirmed that yes, she was, in fact, going to be killed off.

While the killing was met with mixed reviews, it was also pretty necessary. The stories always follow John and Sherlock. With Mary, it was getting too strange. She wasn’t really there for Sherlock, so it was just John’s wife tagging along.

Don’t get me wrong, Mary is an amazing character, but it was like no one knew what to do with her after a certain point. So they killed her off in a shocking way. She jumped in front of a bullet to save Sherlock. John may not forgive him for it but we’re glad that Sherlock is still around.

We watched him die once, we don’t want to do it again. But no matter that, the death of Mary brought on the feel for most the season and it was really strange. So Mary makes our list because truly her death was really surprising. We loved you Mary!!
