2. The Tone

The tone of A Series of Unfortunate Events is extremely important. While reading the books, you have a sense of foreboding while also laughing quite frequently. It is a hard balance and one that the movie completely lacked. The television show, however, somehow managed to capture the tone of the books perfectly.

If you haven’t read the books, it’s hard to explain. But there is just a feeling that comes along with reading them that the television needed to capture in order to be successful. Lucky for us, it did just that.

The tone of A Series of Unfortunate Events sets the feel for the entire life of the Baudelaire children. If a film adaptation or this television series doesn’t get it right, it just throws off everything. But there was something so perfect about the way the Netflix series handled it. Maybe it was Lemony or maybe it was something else but whatever made the tone the way it was, it ended up being perfect.

Truly. If you make this show too happy, it just doesn’t have the same effect and if the show is too sad then you just feel terrible for these kids the whole time. There has to be a nice balance between the two and the show does it wonderfully.
