1. Lemony Snicket

Lemony Snicket narrated the books throughout the entire series. His voice is omnipresent and his love of Beatrice is made clear through each of his narrations. What makes the television series so amazing is their use of Lemony in the actual show. Played by Patrick Warburton, his Lemony Snicket is an actual character in the series.

It’s great for people who’ve read the book and it helps to add to the whole tone of the show. Part of why the movies failed are because the tone was off. It was too much of a joke and didn’t hold the same stakes that the books did.

But with the television show, it is a different story. And it isn’t completely because of the character of Lemony Snicket but it also helps to have him in the show. Plus we get the added bonus of the Beatrice storyline.

To be fair to the movie, I haven’t seen it since it came out and, for someone who loved the books as a kid, that should be a tell-tale sign that it isn’t very good. But even if Beatrice was part of the movies, the use of Lemony in the TV series makes it just that much better.
