We’re getting a new sneak peek at all the Potterverse magic that goes on behind-the-scenes at Hollywood’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
It’s been almost a year since Universal Studios Hollywood opened the gates on their newest theme addition The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Our friends over at Pottermore got an exclusive first-hand tour of some of the inner workings of the studio, and found a few magical secrets!
This video features art director Alan Gilmore, a veteran to the Potter films. The entire studio lot is a faithful recreation of some of the more iconic scenery. That includes Hagrid’s hut, Hogsmeade, and several Hogwarts classrooms.
Our Tour Begins Here
On the outer grounds, we are first greeted by the light blue Ford Anglia that Harry and Ron crashed into the Whomping Willow. From how rusty it looks, it’s definitely been sitting there for a while.

After picking up your very own wand at Ollivander’s, you can head over to Hogsmeade, where you control some of the more magical goings-on in several shops. Just wave your wand at the shop windows, and watch as the magical items dance with a flick of the wrist! Many of the shops house actual props used in the movies, just like in this next classroom set.

One of the main goals of the studio is to give guests an immersive, authentic experience. And that is made evident here in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. The desks and chalkboard inside came from the actual film sets in London. Many props surrounding the scene are recreated true-to-form from the films as well.

Finally, as we explore more of Hogwarts’ inner halls, we come across this interesting statue. This is a tribute to the unnamed architect of Hogwarts. He holds the iconic building in his hands as the four animals that represent the houses sit at his feet: A lion, a badger, a snake, and a raven!
