Showrunner Ryan Murphy is ahead of the game with future plans for “American Crime Story” that include the Monica Lewinsky story.

After a wildly successful first season, Season 2 and 3 of American Crime Story are already in the works. Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Murphy is looking ahead even further than that – and eyeing the Monica Lewinsky scandal as a potential future season.

THR also reported that Murphy and the American Crime Story producers, Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions already optioned Jeffrey Toobin’s 2000 book, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.

Toobin also authored The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Obviously, Murphy used it as inspiration for his first, hit award-winning season of the show.

Lewinsky made headlines in 1998 after President Bill Clinton admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with Lewinsky, then 22, while she worked at the White House. Clinton famously quoted that he “did not have sexual relations with [Lewinsky]”. This subsequently led to further investigation and the eventual impeachment of Clinton. (However, he was acquitted of all impeachment charges later that year after a Senate trial.)

Now, the second season of American Crime Story will focus on Hurricane Katrina. According to THR, it’s expected to premiere in 2018. Season 3 will focus on the July 1997 assassination of designer Gianni Versace. Reportedly, production on both seasons already began.

Of course, the first season of the hit series, The People v. O.J. Simpson, has won a whopping 20 awards across the board, including the 2016 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series, TCA Award for Program of the Year (2016) and the 2016 Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film.

Though the second season is not due to air until 2018, Murphy indeed is staying busy. FX anthology American Horror Story just received a two-season renewal order. Plus, Murphy’s third anthology series Feud is due out March 5, telling the story between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.
