2. Clarke Griffin – The 100

I get it- this is an article about coming out stories and Clarke Griffin never technically “came out.” But that’s exactly it, and that’s exactly why she’s my #2 gal on this list. Coming out stories come in all shapes and sizes. They can be dramatic, sad, lonely, happy, loud, emotional, heroic, dangerous, and wonderful. But they can also be subtle — no long Facebook post or sitting down with your family members or spending months questioning if you’re doing the right thing.

You just wake up one day and you kiss a girl or something and then continue living and surviving as whatever sexuality you want to live with. And although I highly doubt that any of us can relate to the extent of survival that Clarke Griffin goes through on a daily basis, I think her story is relatable to a large majority of people. Because her entire story is focused around it being non news, about it being not necessary to yell it from rooftops.

Now, if you want to yell about your sexuality from rooftops and post that long Facebook status, that’s absolutely okay, but just know that it’s absolutely not needed. You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone, and that’s why Clarke Griffin is a critical character on TV right now.
