1. Alex Danvers – Supergirl

Alex Danvers, my girl. Where do I even begin with her? The amount of people that Alex Danvers and her journey have influenced is unreal. I’ve heard story after story about why she is so important on TV right now, about how many people identified with her, about how many people have come out after watching this season.

Her story and journey were so relatable and tangible that viewers found themselves in her shoes completely. We saw her break down at the thought of questioning her sexuality. Then, we saw her cower at the thought of telling her sister and mother. We went through it with her. Finally, we saw her want the girl, we saw her get turned down by the girl, but then we saw her get the girl. And that’s really what we want to see on TV right now.

Alex Danvers is a character of complete strength and her journey during the second season of Supergirl was everything we needed to make it through the next four years.

When people are telling you to not accept who you are, remember these strong characters, and remember that nobody can tell you who to be. Not even in Trump’s America, because, to quote Lin-Manuel Miranda:

“Love is love is love is love”.
