Send Some Actual Mail to People You Care About
Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to the rise of email, messaging apps and social media, we’re more connected to each other than ever before. Well, sort of. We could be, anyway. But hands up if you’ve actually gotten worse at keeping in touch with friends, old work colleagues, and people you grew up with than ever? (No, your annual Facebook wall post on their birthday does not count.) We have so many ways to contact each other now, we often forget to do it at all. Or at the very least, to do it well. So take a few minutes today and fix that problem.
Send someone you love some actual mail. Remember that thrill you used to get when you opened your mailbox and had something inside that wasn’t a bill or a catalogue you don’t remember signing up for? Recapture that feeling – and pass it along to someone else. Write your best friend from college a letter. Send a card to your great aunt you don’t talk to that much. Did someone do something nice for you? Mail them a thank you card.
Your local CVS has a greeting card section that’s full of options. Nowadays there are cards for every conceivable holiday, season, and personal milestone. Plus, there are a bunch that you can send for almost no reason at all. The “thinking of you” section is great for this. And don’t forget postcards! Pick one. Pick a few. Then grab a pen, write a note and make someone’s day better. It’ll improve yours too.
