Financially Support Causes You Care About
Given our current political climate, it feels like there are more organizations that need our financial support now than ever. That’s kind of because there really are. And they all need help to survive, particularly in these uncertain times when government funding and priorities look poised to shift rapidly. So do what you can to help out. Usually that means donating some cash when you can spare it. It doesn’t have to be much. It’s true: Every little bit really does help. And it will make you feel good to know that you’re doing your part to protect and support the values you care about.
Do your research first though. Make a list of all the particular causes that are important to you. If you’re not sure, you can find a full list of pro-women, pro-immigrant, pro-Earth, anti-bigotry organizations here that need your support. And don’t forget there are also plenty of arts organizations, non-profit theaters and public media outlets that are member-supported as well. It really all just comes down to what your budget is, and what issues you’re interested in.
If you’re able, consider becoming monthly donors to one or more of your favorite charities. Monthly gifts help organizations maintain a consistent source of income, allowing them to set more predictable budgets and better allocate resources. (And the automatic billing makes it less of a hassle for you, too.) Check out watchdog organization Charity Navigator for a detailed breakdown on how your charities of choice rate on financial performance, reported expenses and more.
