Will Lady Gaga Avoid Politics in Super Bowl Performance?
Lady Gaga will take the stage at the Super Bowl LI Halftime Show on Feb. 5. But will she get political?
Lady Gaga is one of the most outspoken and political artists of our generation. And just two weeks after the inauguration of a president she protested against, she’ll be performing on one of the most popular televised events — Super Bowl LI (that’s 51 for anyone not in the know as far as Roman numerals go).
At Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé was accused of getting too political — her dancers were dressed in costumes that resembled Black Panther garb. So did the NFL tell Gaga to stay away from political messages this year? According to Billboard and the NFL, this rumor is “nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none”.
Gaga does seem to be excited for the show, sporting NFL gear even when she’s taking a short break from rehearsals.
A representative from the NFL also told Billboard:
"The Super Bowl is a time when people really come together. Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren’t going to be distracted by this."
And that does seem to be the case. Lady Gaga has been providing some great behind the scenes peeks into her Super Bowl prep over on her Instagram.
She even set up a tent and dance floor in her backyard to practice her sure to be stellar moves for the performance
Looks like Lady Gaga is taking this performance very seriously. Also, it’s been reported that Gaga won’t have any guests joining her for the big moment. Certainly, that adds additional pressure on her performance to be outstanding.
