Michelle Obama’s Most Fabulous Fashion Moments
By Ani Bundel
Michelle’s first big moment in 2009 was of course the Inaugural. The event is divided into two major events—the swearing in and parade, which is daywear and then the balls that night. For her daywear, she wore a lemongrass dress and coat set from Isabel Toledo.
And for evening, she wore the now-famous Jason Wu gown that would later be donated to the Smithsonian Museum, where it is on display today.
For the 2009 White House Correspondents Dinner (her first of eight) she sported Michael Kors, who at the time was still a judge on Project Runway as much as he was a respected designer.
For her first 2009 State Dinner, held in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur, she chose a silver-appliqué Naeem Khan gown. Khan would also be one of her go-tos over the next eight years.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t all ballgowns. Here she is in one of my favorite of her early daywear ensembles, in J.Crew at the Women’s Health Insurance Reform Forum 2009.
