Science
Because Washington D.C. is the city that nerds hard, we have lots of cool science things that you can do and see.
Air & Space
Pretty much everyone is aware of the National Air & Space Museum, and for good reason. It is awesome. This is the one I went to most as a kid. While you’re there, relax in the planetarium and check out the amazing, multi-level gift shop. You’ve never seen so many science toys in one place before.
Udvar-Hazy
But wait, there’s more Air & Space Museum. The Udvar-Hazy Center is out near Dulles airport, in Chantilly, Virginia. It’s a haul, but the huge facility has the best space stuff.
"Its two huge hangars — the Boeing Aviation Hangar and the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar — display thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a Concorde, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. The Center also offers the Airbus IMAX® Theater and the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower, which gives you a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of Washington Dulles International Airport and the surrounding area. Udvar-Hazy Center is also home to the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar where preservation of the National Air and Space Museum’s collections takes place. A glassed-in mezzanine provides a view of restoration projects in progress. Researchers will also find the majority of the Archives’ collections at the Udvar-Hazy Center reading room."
The Udvar-Hazy Center has daily tours, and also offers lectures and events. One such is the totally free and family friendly Observe the Sun with safe telescopes: Daytime astronomy at the Public Observatory, on January 22, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Koshland
Do you have teens who love science? Or, like me, can you never get enough of interactive, hands-on science exhibits? Go to the National Academy of Science’s Koshland Science Museum. They have three main areas: Life Lab, Earth Lab, and Idea Lab. At the Koshland, you can learn about all aspects of our bodies and minds, and the planet we live on through really cool exhibits and demos.

National Academy of Sciences Building
Another must-see for science lovers is the Einstein Memorial at the National Academy of Sciences Building, which itself has exterior carvings and bronze work that’s worth the trip on its own while you’re here for the women’s march.
