Star Trek Discovery Finds their Vulcan and it’s Spock’s Dad

Star Trek Discovery may be delayed again but they’re still coming out with new cast members as the days roll in and now we have Spock’s dad as a key player!

Sarek, the father to beloved fan favorite Spock, will now be a major character in the new Star Trek Discovery series. Actor James Frain, who fans might recognize from BBC America’s Orphan Black will be taking on the role.

Sarek is the first returning Trek character to join the Discovery cast. They will begin filming the show in Toronto next week but that doesn’t mean you’ll see Discovery any time soon. In fact, the release date has been pushed yet again.

When Entertainment Weekly reached for a statement from CBS, this was the response they gave to the pushed date:

"“Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created.  This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show.  We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”"

Basically CBS just wanted to be clear that they could premiere it when they felt fit. But one part of the statement is comforting, where they talk about their aim to make it right rather than quickly. Star Trek is beloved by many and we don’t want it to be disappointing.
