Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Premiere Date Announced
By Buckie Wells
As announced today, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returns for its fourth season on HBO this February.
Today, HBO announced the premiere date for one of the best voices in late night. John Oliver, one of the most important British men on this side of the pond, returns for another season of Last Week Tonight. Of course, as soon as he gets back, expect him to drop some truth bombs on the state of America three weeks post-inauguration.
From the official press release:
"LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER returns for its fourth season SUNDAY, FEB. 12 (11:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT) exclusively on HBO. Presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, as well as addressing broader issues, the Emmy-winning show is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night."
While Oliver certainly presents the news with a flare of comedy, what used to be “satirical” is now becoming the unfortunate truth. As the media continues to fumble how to present real facts, Oliver proves to be one of the few late night voices who can still tell it like it is. And yes, that’s probably because he can’t even vote.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s really funny. And Last Week Tonight put together some really excellent segments after Election Day that spelled out just how derailed politics became. Which is to say, February can’t come fast enough as we await the return of our favorite and sharpest late night Brit.
Though the fourth season renewal was announced months ago, now we finally know when it’s going to premiere. And considering the state of late night television, it can’t come fast enough.
