Can We Just Get a LEGO Batgirl Movie After The LEGO Batman Movie?

After seeing the LEGO version of Barbara Gordon in action for The LEGO Batman Movie, we just want there to be a LEGO Batgirl sequel.

It’s no secret that The LEGO Batman Movie has a lot of support around these parts. Any Bat-movie that manages to poke fun at Robin’s general existence as a sidekick while also pointing out Batman’s deep psychological issues is a Bat-movie that we want to see. Add in Batgirl, and we’re even more intrigued.

Add in a Batgirl who’s also poking fun at the fact that her superhero name is Batgirl, and we’re kind of sold.

Check out the new TV spot below, with a tip of the hat to Nerdist:

Yes, yes, we know. Spots and trailers have a terrible tendency to lie. However, after The LEGO Movie managed to incorporate all the many licenses and make Batman funny, we have some faith in Warner Animation to pull it off again with The LEGO Batman Movie.

Additionally, Barbara Gordon has a particularly interesting job in the LEGO version of Gotham. As mentioned in the above TV spot, she’s actually the city’s police commissioner. Normally, her dad, James Gordon, fills that role. However, it strikes us that it’s actually a pretty cool change. She even gets a LEGO trenchcoat!

We’re also very much fans of the purple Batsuit coming back en vogue for Batgirl. Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the joke about her name. “If you call me Batgirl, can I call you Batboy?” Batman just laughs before saying no.

LEGO movies are apparently asking the hard questions. Of course, Batwoman is usually Kate Kane, not Barbara, but it’s a valid point. Will the movie continue to quietly explore the Batgirl-Batwoman debate? That remains to be seen.
