Rep. John Lewis’ Books Sell Out After Trump Tweets

Representative John Lewis’ books sold out on Amazon after he became the latest target of one of Trump’s Twitter attacks.

During an interview for Meet the Press, Representative John Lewis told host Chuck Todd that he did not see Trump as “a legitimate president” based on Russia’s interference with the election. Lewis added that he would not be attending the inauguration ceremony on January 20th. In response to Lewis’ remarks, Trump took to Twitter (of course) and launched an attack on the civil rights icon who currently represents Atlanta’s fifth district.

Trump tweeted out that “Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!”

Other Twitter users — residents of Atlanta, journalists, celebrities, politicians, and more — immediately came to Lewis’ defense, pointing out that Rep. Lewis was once Martin Luther King Jr.’s right hand man, marching alongside him on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma and appearing onstage with Dr. King as he delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech. Many other elected officials, including other Democrats in the House of Representatives, have joined Rep. John Lewis in his boycott of the inauguration ceremony.

In addition to being a civil rights icon and an elected official, John Lewis is also a best-selling author. He is the author of Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement, Across That Bridge: Life Lessons and a Vision for Change, and March, a graphic novel trilogy about the civil rights movement. Thanks to the attention Lewis has received over the past few days, his books are now selling out at Amazon. With the exception of Kindle e-book editions of the March trilogy, each of Lewis’ books are listed as temporarily out of stock.

Although Trump’s rant helped create a drastic increase in book sales for Rep. Lewis, he probably shouldn’t expect a ‘thank you’ from the Congressman anytime soon. Lewis has made it very clear that he’s not fond of the president-elect.

As far as the condition of Atlanta’s 5th district, which Lewis has represented in Congress since 1986, here’s a video that will give you an idea of just how horrible it really is.

Reports of deplorable conditions in the area include excessive wait times for parking spaces at Trader Joe’s, overcrowded yoga classes, and chai lattes being served at increasingly higher temperatures.

There has been no word yet on whether or not President Obama intends to send FEMA to the region nor do we have any evidence that Donald Trump could find Atlanta on a map.
