31 Times Captain America Was The Best Avenger
(ABC/Jennifer Clasen)
His Biggest Fan is Phil Coulson
Even if you don’t watch Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, you know Agent Phil Coulson from the start of the MCU. You know, the one who keeps popping up in Iron Man in an attempt to debrief him. The one Thor calls “Son of Coul.” The one who gets stabbed in the heart by Loki (spoiler alert eight movies ago).
Phil Coulson is Captain America’s biggest fan. He can’t shut up about him in The Avengers. Do you know who has a complete collection of vintage Captain America cards that he wants signed? Phil Coulson. Nick Fury used those same blood-spattered cards to get the remaining Avengers to work together to defeat Loki.
He just loves Captain America so much, and while his fanboying tendencies make a good laugh for the audience, they’re still so darn sincere. Steve is fresh from the ice, smack dab in the middle of an era he doesn’t know and understand. And he knows no one. While his offhand comment about not sure if he’s the man for the job may feel a little playacting, Coulson immediately assures him that there’s no one better.
Phil Coulson would—and did—die for Captain America and the Avengers. I don’t think you could ask more from a fan.
