His Patriotism

We’ll start with the obvious: his patriotism. Captain Rogers is straight from the golden age of America, wanting to fight in the Second World War because it’s the right thing to do.

He joins ranks with the SSR in his first appearance in the MCU because he sees it as the right thing to do… even if they don’t actually let him do anything until he goes behind their back to rescue his friend.

Even in the present day, he still can’t shake his patriotic past. It hurts him to see how much America has changed in seventy years. In The Avengers, he says to Nick Fury, “When I went under, the world was at war. I wake up, they say we won. They didn’t say what we lost.” Gaping holes have him wondering just what he missed and what everyone refuses to say.

I mean, he’s Captain America. You have to be at least a little patriotic to pull off both the name and the star-spangled suit. Even when he’s promoted to Captain Rogers, he still dons the red, white, and blue shield.

He’s certainly not one to sit idly by while things are going downhill, and his patriotism certainly fuels that personality trait.
