Getting to Kiss Peggy Carter

Okay maybe we have a thing for Peggy Carter, too. Hayley Atwell has done so much with the character in the small amount of screentime she’s had. She was given a Marvel One-Shot, which morphed into two seasons of a television show (which was cut too short).

She’s also done so much that directors have written scenes specifically to bring her into their movie. Joss Whedon wrote that weird dream sequence Scarlet Witch gives Cap to include Peggy, and Peyton Reed wrote that opening scene at Pym Tech to include her. Just because she’s so darn good.

In an interview with Collider, Chris Evans actually talked about her acting abilities, pointing specifically to the scene in the bar with her wearing a red dress:

"We must have done that – I’m not joking – about 15 times. The only reason is because [director] Joe [Johnston] would come in and give Hayley a new direction every time and every time she crushed it."

So the fact that Steve gets to kiss Peggy Carter at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger makes us green with envy and also we salute him. You can keep your Jane Foster, your Pepper Potts, your Christine Palmer—give us Peggy Carter any day of the week.
