Being a Pallbearer at Peggy Carter’s Funeral
This takes a strong person to do, and I’m not talking just muscles. You have to have the emotional stamina to take this on, especially for someone as beloved as Peggy was to Cap.
For him to be a pallbearer means so much more. His silent tears in that scene as he bears the heavy weight speak far more than words ever could. You don’t need words in that moment because it’s all written on Steve Rogers’ face:
Nothing will ever be this heavy, but he has to do it. He has to be there for Peggy no matter what.
Think about it: how would the other Avengers react? Tony’s had so much emotional trauma in his life that he would avoid the funeral at all costs or loiter in the back and sneak out before anyone notices him. Thor would have some sort of Asgardian ritual instead of an earthly funeral.
The only ones who would probably show up would be Hawkeye, Bruce Banner, and Black Widow, but can you see any of them risking their emotional state to carry the coffin of a loved one? You know Bruce can’t handle emotional stress. And both Hawkeye and Black Widow would watch from afar.
