His Lack of Understanding What Fondue Really Means

Captain America has a thing for Peggy Carter. And who can blame him? She’s a badass British agent working for the SSR who doesn’t let anyone boss her around. Plus, being played by Hayley Atwell is just a fantastic bonus.

Their relationship in Captain America: The First Avenger is one of the more unique love interest stories in the MCU. Because sure, Steve went from a scrawny kid from Brooklyn to a giant, Dorito-shaped hunk of muscled man, but that’s not the one that Peggy fell for.

So when Cap’s about to parachute behind enemy lines and Howard Stark asks Peggy about catching some late-night fondue on their way back, he’s angry that someone’s making moves on his girl (even if she isn’t his girl).

Then when he gets caught kissing someone else and makes a stuttered comment about her and Stark fondue-ing, Peggy can only roll her eyes and walk away. There’s not much else you can do at his naivety.

“Fondue is just cheese and bread, my friend,” Howard Stark tells him after he makes an idiot of himself. Stark honestly should offer to take him out for some fondue, because it’s delicious and far from what he thought they were doing.
