12. Addison Montgomery

I have very few problems with Addison. And when you get over her terrible timing in Season 1 (which was really Webber’s fault), she’s great. She’s funny and sweet, and the second-best neonatal doctor around. (We’ll get to the actual best a little later.)

Addison arrived in Seattle to work on a case for Richard Webber, but stayed to fight for Derek. Though, once she realized that Derek really wanted to be with Meredith, she got out of the way. Moreover, she did her best to be friends with everyone. She consoled Derek when he needed it and provided guidance to Meredith, just because. What she really wanted was a home, but didn’t fit in anywhere till she moved to California.

Still, during her tenure at Seattle Grace, she never allowed the ongoing drama to stop her from being the most accomplished fetal surgeon and teaching the interns as best as she could. She taught Meredith despite their history, gave Alex a shot despite how rude he was, and decided that Izzie really had what it took to become a fetal surgeon. Though Izzie ultimately decided against following in Addison’s footsteps, Addison continued to lead the pack and sacrifice her needs for others until she moved to Seaside Wellness.
