New Video Shows Further Proof of Rogue One’s Alternate Endings

In ABC’s K-2SO featurette, it appears as though Alan Tudyk and Diego Luna filmed alternate death scenes for their characters in Rogue One.

At this point, we know there were several different ways Rogue One could’ve ended. Early in the drafts, our heroes made it out alive. But the Rogue One team ultimately decided to go for broke and let everyone die, including the main villain of the film, Director Orson Krennic.

As picked up by Making Star Wars, ABC released a new featurette on the making of Alan Tudyk’s new iconic droid, K-2SO. In addition to wearing a motion-capture suit that failed to impress OD (that’s “original droid”) Anthony Daniels, Tudyk wore stilts. Plus, his joints and general manner of carrying himself were inspired by Star Tours, the simulator ride found at Disney Theme Parks. (Well, the original is Star Tours, the current one is Star Tours — The Adventure Continues, and plays in 3D.)

However, the more fascinating portion of the video begins at 0:45. We see Alan Tudyk outside the Imperial bunker of Scarif, dying alongside Cassian (Diego Luna). Obviously, his fate remains the same. But it appears he could’ve died with his friend instead of being shot down in the data room.

To help Tudyk along, Rogue One‘s animation supervisor Hal Hickel said, “The whole idea is to give the actor the best opportunity to do their work. And the best place for them to do that is on set with the other actors, interacting with them. That’s where the magic happens.”

As each character died, Rogue One was careful to make sure we didn’t gloss over the impact of their sacrifices. Although, I like Kaytoo’s ending the way we saw it in theaters better!
