Here’s why we love Lavender Brown, one of the most beloved, underrated witches in the wizarding world of Harry Potter!
Lavender Brown is often regarded as a minor character in Harry Potter’s world, but we think she deserves a lot more attention and praise. If it wasn’t for Lavender, we may not have seen the depth of feelings Hermione and Ron shared for each other. And, we wouldn’t have had the comedy relief we needed throughout the very bleak and intense moments in The Half Blood Prince.

Whenever we see Lavender (portrayed by Jessie Cave) she’s laughing and giggling with her best friend Pavarti, spreading gossip and crushing on “Won-Won”. Although we knew in our hearts that Ron was meant for Hermione, it was a delight watching Lavender chase Ron and catch him for a bit. Lavender is in love with love and we could relate to her obsession.
Lavender and Won-Won
Watching Lavender “snog” Ron in such a public way, made our hearts pitter-patter much to Hermione’s dismay. But, a little competition between lovers is very human even for teen witches and wizards.

Lavender showed great interest in the study of Divination or “fortune telling” in our muggle world. She excelled at the subject and admired Professor Trelawney. She loved her ability to accurately predict the death of Lavender’s beloved pet rabbit, Binky. When others saw Trelawney as a fraud, especially Hermione, Lavender was quick to become defensive. If given the chance, Lavender may well have had a career in Divination, maybe even teaching the subject at Hogwarts someday.
Being a Gryffindor means Lavender is courageous and ready to fight. She joined and trained in “Dumbledore’s Army” and fought alongside her friends during ‘The Battle of Hogwarts’. She showed true loyalty and gave her life for her friends. And that sacrifice is worthy of all the gold in Gringotts.

For every Hermione Granger we need a Lavender Brown. We adore Hermione’s quiet, bookish personality but Lavender’s outlandish, self-centered, obsessive traits were a welcome contrast and challenge to Hermione’s character. Although the girls were more foes than friends, they were still apart of the same team and in the end nothing else matters.
