Death and Harry Potter go hand in hand but the series also helped a lot of fans cope with it in their real lives when death came knocking.
Growing up, we learn about death in different ways. It is hard to understand and there are plenty of books to help children cope with the idea of it. But reading the Harry Potter series made a whole generation of people see death in a completely different light.
For me specifically, I remember reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix years after my grandmother died. Much like Harry with Sirius, I didn’t tell her I loved her before she died since we had no idea it was coming.
But for me, reading about that in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix helped me cope some ten years after her death. I was able to look back on it and feel differently because of how Harry handled Sirius Black’s passing. Plus the entire series as a whole follows Harry coping with those around him dying. Since the first moment we met him, he had to deal with the murder of his parents and then watching those around him die at the hands of Lord Voldemort.
We might not relate to a lot that happens to Harry throughout the series but it does help us cope with normal things that happen to us. J.K Rowling built a magical world that we can find something to relate to in.
