You’ll Find Your Faves at a Womens March on Jan. 21
The Women’s March on Washington will take place Inauguration Weekend in Washington D.C. and is expected to draw huge crowds — including celebrities.
As announced today, America Ferrera will serve as the Artist Table Chair for the Women’s March on Washington. The march takes place the day after the Inauguration on Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C.
Early on, the group almost failed to get permits, and the march seemed doomed. But permits came through, and the group expects a crowd of 100,000 people to march in the capital. And now, celebrities are coming forward to join the march.
In a press release, Ferrera stated that the purpose of the march remains to amplify the voices of those who fear they’ll be ignored, or negatively impacted by a Trump administration:
"“As artists, women, and most importantly dedicated Americans, it is critical that we stand together in solidarity for the protection, dignity and rights of our communities. Immigrant rights, worker rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, racial justice and environmental rights are not special interests, they affect us all and should be every American’s concern.”"
A few other celebrities confirmed to attend are Patricia Arquette, Cher, Uzo Aduba, Scarlett Johansson, Padma Lakshmi, Amy Schumer, Constance Wu, Olivia Wilde, and Zendaya.
Further, Chelsea Handler will also be hosting a march at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Jan. 21:
"“By hosting a sister march in Park City, our Women’s March on Main will help send a message to the incoming administration that attacks on Planned Parenthood and our fundamental human rights are unacceptable and if we have to re-fight for rights we have already fought for and won, we will do it louder and stronger, with men by our side.”"
On Jan. 21, expect to see several marches happen across the United States. Of course, we encourage anyone unable to attend the march in Washington to attend a local march in their town.
