Supergirl’s January Premiere Synopsis Reveals Roulette’s Return

When Supergirl returns in January, the Kevin Smith-directed episode will see the return of Roulette and more enslaved aliens.

Supergirl returns in just a couple of weeks. Directed by Kevin Smith, the premiere episode (“Supergirl Lives”) will launch the second half of an already buzzworthy season. When Supergirl Season 2 premiered on The CW, Supergirl elevated its storylines to reflect its demographic shift. While The CW baited many viewers with the appearance of Superman, we stayed because of Alex Danver’s coming out story and the introduction of Lena Luthor, who was the one saving the day in the background all along.

Even the villains were better this season, like Roulette. Her alien fight club proved to be a worthy battleground for Supergirl. And since the character fled before the DEO could arrest her, Roulette appears to be resurfacing again in the premiere episode.

According to the new synopsis, Roulette leads a new operation on Slaver’s Moon:

"KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister."

I’m sorry, but I totally forgot Snapper Carr exists and wouldn’t mind if we see less and less of him. But more importantly, here is our first indication that the road ahead won’t be easy for Maggie and Alex. Why would it be? Oh, sure, they kissed, so all insecurities fall to the wayside and everything turns out to be fine, right? Wrong. Have you ever watched television before? Further, have you been watching Supergirl? Alex puts Kara first always. Even before herself.

Plus, Roulette won’t be the only villain we see again this season. So, stay tuned for more appearances from your favorite baddies.
