20 Reasons Why Moulin Rouge is the Best Movie Musical

The Play
The play that is featured in Moulin Rouge is truly original. When I say original, I mean it is just the plot of the movie in play format with all the actors and crew knowing that art is imitating life. Except for the Duke. He is the only one who doesn’t know anything.
Really it just shows that maybe Christian isn’t the best playwright in the world. He only writes what he knows and while that is a good format to uphold, it also doesn’t make a lot of sense for him to admit to his relationship with Satine while she is promised to the Duke.
It is like he thought they’d never be caught. They weren’t exactly quiet about it. Toulouse was with them half the time and most the bohemians knew what was going on. So Christian’s bright idea was to make the play about a courtesan and a maharaja who are promised to one another when a penniless sitar player woos her because she thinks that he is the maharaja.
Sound familiar? Well it should because it is literally how the two met in their real lives. In actuality, it’d be an amazingly smart thing to do if everyone didn’t know about their relationship.
