Toulouse Lautrec

Christian makes performer and artist friends when he first moves to Paris when an unconscious Argentinean falls through his ceiling. They are creating a musical (one that samples “The Sound of Music” as their main song) and the Argentinean suffers from narcolepsy.

And that leads to the amazing first impression we get of Toulouse. He is a short man who inserts himself in Christian’s life and forces him to become one of their merry band members. Toulouse doesn’t particularly care that Christian is new to Paris or that he doesn’t really know what is going on, he can see that Christian has talent and is going to make sure to capitalize on that while he can.

So the two become sort of best friends and Toulouse helps Christian along the way but it is super weird at times and that’s what really makes us love him. There are moments when we don’t understand Toulouse and what he’s doing, just that he suddenly has a guitar and is making noises with his mouth.

No matter how you feel about this movie, you have to admit that John Leguizamo does an incredible job playing Toulouse and he is one of the best parts of the entire film.
