I’m the Green Fairy

In a surprise role by Kylie Minogue, the Green Fairy is the first and only time many of us witness the effect that absinthe can have on people. And honestly, it took me about fifteen years to realize that the Green Fairy and absinthe were the same thing.

But it is a cool concept to make absinthe make you actually see a green fairy. Why? Because then we get to see Kylie Minogue flying around Paris laughing hysterically as our favorite bohemians sing “Freedom, beauty, truth and love.”

The whole scene is just fun. It introduces us to the world that Christian so longed to be a part of. It is crazy and there are so many things going on around him that we don’t know if it is part of the absinthe or just how Montmarte just is.

Either way, it makes the beginning of the bohemian life in Montmarte absolutely amazing. They just have fun and experience life without worrying about anything going on around them except for their art and it is a great contrast scene to the beginning of the film with Christian in the future with a sad beard and writing about Satine dying and leaving him alone.
