Satine

The heroine of Moulin Rouge is the ever lovely Satine. She is the Sparkling Diamond and Christian easily falls in love with her for obvious reasons. So, we care for her and the fact that we knows she’s dying from the start hurts.

She is a dreamer who only wants to finally make it as a real actress and the fact that she is so close and doesn’t reach that dream is heartbreaking. But we love Satine, even though we know her fate, because she wants to protect those she loves and looks out for them all.

Satine just wants the play to succeed so she and everyone around her will succeed and the fact that she doesn’t get any of her dreams shows us that life is fragile.

Moulin Rouge does a great job of showing us what working towards are goals can be but also reminds us that life is short and fleeting and we have to remain true to ourself and those we love. Satine could have easily run away with Christian from the start but she stays for the Moulin Rouge.
