Spectacular, Spectacular

Again, the movie isn’t the best at not giving away all its secrets in one go. In “Spectacular, Spectacular” Christian explains the plot of the play and it is just the love story we are about to see unfold. Truly, it is remarkable how many times the movie tells us what is going to happen and how many times we are still surprised by the ending.

Moulin Rouge has a really cool way of showing the audience exactly what they are going to get and then continually reminding them that we already know the ending before we’ve seen it. But there is something special about a movie that can do that and still maintain its audience.

We aren’t put off by it or even angry that we knew what was coming. We’re just involved in the characters and want to know how we got to the future that Christian is writing the story from. And “Spectacular, Spectacular” is a great way to show everyone just how amazing these artists are.

They come up with the entire story on the spot and the Duke loves it and it really shows just how talented these people really are. Too bad the Duke ruins everything for everone.
