Christian and Satine’s Love Story
The love story in Moulin Rouge makes up the entire movie. It is about love and trying to overcome whatever life has to throw at us. But for Christian and Satine, their story is filled with struggle and heartbreak and when they finally do overcome everything, Satine dies.
It honestly kind of sucks. The entire movie we are forced into watching these two fall in love and struggle and then the ending is so miserably sad. Yet here we all are, loving it and wishing that there was some happier twist that we all somehow missed.
Instead, we get Christian crying over Satine’s body and hope that we can one day find someone who loves us so much that if we suddenly died at the end of a play they wrote, they’d be devastated.
In actuality, the build up of their romance is quite amazing. The two struggle and learn who the other person is and it makes it one of the most fully formed romances in modern musical films. Most the time, they just sing a song and that’s it. But Moulin Rouge shows them falling in love in an amazing way and truly makes this one of the greatest love stories of our time.
