20 Reasons Why Moulin Rouge is the Best Movie Musical

Satine’s Dreams
In great contrast to “The Show Must Go On”, the scene in which Satine reveals all her dreams is uplifting and shows the promise and determination she has to be a real actress. She sings “One Day I’ll Fly Away” about getting out of the Moulin Rouge and making something of herself.
It’s sad because we’ve already seen her coughing up blood and we know she doesn’t survive but still, to see that kind of dreamer is remarkable. So many movies make artists and dreamers out to be these naïve, idiotic people but they aren’t. They are just determined and want to make their goals come true.
For Satine, it is just heartbreaking because her dreams are finally coming to her and she is working towards her goals and something completely out of her hand is taking it away from her. She got sick and she had to deal with it when she should have been celebrating the fact that she was finally going to be an actual actress and not just the Sparkling Diamond.
So “One Day I’ll Fly Away” is so hopeful but it is also incredibly upsetting to watch this amazing woman fail because of something out of her control.
