11. Iron Gold

That’s right, Pierce Brown’s Red Rising series is no longer just a trilogy. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brown revealed that Iron Gold will begin a sequel trilogy. (One wonders if one day he’ll make it a trilogy of trilogies. It would just feel so much more complete that way…Well, let’s not give him ideas before we see how this second trilogy goes.)

Brown also noted in the same interview that the book actually picks up 10 years later, during a time of strife in the Solar Republic. Our old friends Darrow and Mustang will be back again — now into their thirties, but still ready to throw down with the remaining Golds in the Core. Apparently, there will be some fresh faces as well as even more worldbuilding as we visit different planets. I won’t say no to either.

Alas, this book was only recently announced. As a result, most of the early Goodreads reviews simply express excitement for the continuation of the series. Set this one on your to-read list now, and maybe spend some time re-reading the original trilogy of Red Rising, Golden Son and Morning Star.

Fortunately, you have that time: Random House won’t release Iron Gold until Aug. 20.
