7. John Gallagher Jr.

Tony-award winner John Gallagher Jr. became famous for playing Moritz Stiefel in the musical Spring Awakening. Adapted into a musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, Spring Awakening changed the face of Broadway and gave us the first musical to really break a ton of barriers all at once.

This is my all time favorite musical and I could talk about it for hours, but let’s talk about John Gallagher Jr. and his brilliant work. From all the plays he’s done on Broadway to his work in Newsroom on HBO, Gallagher has proven time and time again how talented he truly is.

And, he is a very accomplished musician who has a multitude of songs he performs pretty frequently in New York City. Most recently he was in A Long Day’s Journey Into Night opposite Michael Shannon.

The play was, as you could guess, long but it was wonderful to see John on stage in such a hard hitting production. He has done plays more frequently than musicals. But that doesn’t mean we don’t cherish Johnny from American Idiot or Moritz Stiefel from Spring Awakening.

Come back to a musical, Johnny! We miss you and your sad boy singing.
