1. The Twilight Zone – SyFy – 6 a.m. Saturday to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday

It’s a staple of New Year’s Eve TV marathons, and it’s one of the spookiest. The Twilight Zone is set to air on SyFy, beginning at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, stretching all the way until 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. That’s a whole lot of science fiction to pour through.

The original series ran from 1959 until 1964. It was one of the first major anthology shows on TV, much like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which was launched in 1955. First created by Rod Sterling, this show brought mystery, the paranormal, and psychological horrors to the A.m.erican TV set each week. The iconic mark it left behind on television led TV Guide to rank it number 5 on its 2013 Best Series of All Time list. This show served as platforms for famous actors, such as Robert Redford, William Shatner, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Carol Burnett, and Buster Keaton.

The entire marathon will begin early in the morning, starting with The Twilight Zone Movie. The fascinating piece, made in 1938 and produced by Steven Spielberg, is a remake of three classic episodes, plus one original story. Actors Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks, and John Lithgow all have a hand in it. You’ve got to rise up pretty early in the morning to catch it, but even if you don’t, you’ll be filled with enough Twilight Zone after this marathon to last you several lifetimes.
