15. Law & Order – WE tv – 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday

WE tv continues a trend of TV marathons with ampersands in the title with a whole bunch of Law & Order episodes lined up. This powerhouse TV show will start 5:00 p.m. Saturday, ending at 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning. For the first few hours, you’ll get to see the original series, featuring episodes from Season 3 on, until it switches over to Criminal Intent at 1:00 a.m.

This legal drama started in 1990, lasting a stunning 20 seasons on its own before several different versions spun off. In fact, Special Victims Unit is on its way to making it to that many seasons as well. Known for its iconic opening theme and the signature sound between scenes (actor Dann Florek referred to it as the “doink doink” in one interview), this show is unique as many of the stories are recognizable, or, quote “ripped from the headlines.” Being a newsroom writer myself, it’s fun for me to see how the procedural side of stories goes, and how these grizzled NYPD detectives get on a case and stick to it until it’s solved.

Of course, this is fiction, and I know that, but it’s still one of the more fascinating crime drama’s that still has a strong grasp on TV to this day.
