Freaks and Geeks
Freaks and Geeks is one of the most underrated, underwatched shows of the century, and it launched the careers of some of today’s biggest names, (check out that baby-faced James Franco). As one of the most intelligent series about coming of age, Freaks and Geeks was the opposite of a “high school show.” It’s been on so many “best of” lists and has a cult following that would rival any fandom. It’s an underappreciated gem that deserves a few more minutes of fame.
Of course all this warrants a reboot, but, folks, it only aired for one season. If nothing else, we just need a little bit more. One season just isn’t enough for a show to really come into its on. With directors like Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, the depths of unmined potential just downright makes me sad.
If we could just keep the original directors, I think we could muster up a respectable reboot. Obviously James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel are too old to reprise the role as high school students. I wouldn’t be opposed to their appearing as teachers or parents, though. As long as its as moving and genuine as the original, bring it on.
