6. Not Everything Works Out
With a movie about love, usually we only have happy endings and, in a lot of ways, that isn’t true to real life. Things rarely work out in the way we want them to so when you have movies constantly having happy endings, it can get a bit monotonous.
But then there is Love Actually. While there are the happy storylines, there are about three that do not have the ending you’d expect. Laura Linney doesn’t get her man, Andrew Lincoln is still single in the end and Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson are fighting when the movie comes to a conclusion.
But that is what makes this movie so great. It teaches us that not everything is perfect. Laura Linney spends the entire movie trying to find the love she wanted and in the end, she ended up with her brother on Christmas and still single. And maybe that was the point but it just shows us that not everything is going to end in a happy ending.
Some things are just not meant to be. It’s important we all remember that. Because if we forget, we expect life to work out our way; then, when it doesn’t, we are extremely disappointed.
