Season 5: Miranda & Tate’s Mother Goose

Season 5 heralded another set of changes to the program. It was the first time the show went to two cycles a year, with both a January debut (Season 4) and an August debut (Season 5). It was also the first “gimmicky” season, if you will, with contestants from the first four seasons (dubbed “veterans”) brought back to compete against a half a roster of new contestants, (dubbed “rookies”). Now, let’s be clear, Laura Tyler ultimately won, which was the entire point of the exercise, righting the wrong of Season 3. But of the looks that season that stood out the most hers never made the grade — despite Glen’s over the top praise of nearly everything she did.

In the returnee category, the best look of the season went to Miranda’s pumpkin headed lady from the Mother Goose challenge. The sculpt and the paint made the head look like something you’d see during Halloween at a kitsch store. And I mean that in a good way! Up close, it’s simply fantastic. The judges were madly in love with it. You can’t see it in the photo, but the palms of the hands were made to look like the seedy guts of pumpkin insides. It was a nice touch. Glenn went gaga over the sculpture. They were the top team for the challenge, but it was Miranda who was given the win for her face sculpture.
