It’s the summer of the soul even though it’s December, thanks to 20 of the very best moments from The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of those rare, beautiful childhood movies that ages extremely well. While I won’t name names, I’m sure we can all think of a movie or two (or three, or four) that turned out to be a dud. Somehow, through young eyes, a film can be something like magic. It can be a place for imagination, escape, and transformation. Then, as an adult, it turns into a big mess. Maybe the acting isn’t quite right. Perhaps the sets are cheap. Sometimes, the script is downright terrible.

I won’t argue that The Muppet Christmas Carol is perfect, by any means. I’m even going to dig in to some of those apparent low points in the article you’re about to read. Michael Caine, bless him, is, well, maybe not the best dancer you will ever see on screen. His singing is perfectly good, though, and I definitely will fight you over that.

Nevertheless, there’s a lot to recommend The Muppet Christmas Carol to children and adults alike. It’s surprisingly mature for a kids’ movie, especially when Gonzo starts directly quoting from Dickens. The music is very catchy. In our house, we’ve had “Scrooge” and “Marley and Marley” stuck in our heads for weeks now. It’s even kind of spooky, what with the ghosts and terrifying visions of the future throughout. However, thanks to the presence of the Muppets, it shouldn’t give anyone but the most sensitive souls nightmares.

Keep in mind that I’ve matured into something of a Scrooge myself. I haven’t resorted to evicting anyone or shouting “bah, humbug” too much, but I can definitely be cynical. So, if someone like me can still find joy in a Muppet movie from my childhood, just imagine your reaction. Here are some of the twenty best moments from The Muppet Christmas Carol.
