We rank 20 Versions of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’
19. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
In 2012, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John made a Christmas album together, This Christmas, because of course they did. Nothing screams Christmas like the reunion of Danny and Sandy. However, their version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” lacks the heat of those “Summer Nights” from long ago.
You would think two people with such great chemistry on screen would translate into a holiday album, but sadly that is just not the case. Their version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” while attempting to be cute and flirty just comes off as awkward. The parts may be reversed, with Newton-John trying to convince Travolta to stay, but neither seem like they really have their heart in it.
While Newton-John’s voice is nice and melodic, Travolta’s part sounds more spoken than sung. The order of the lyrics are changed around in places for seemingly no reason. There is also a weird interlude of dialogue in the middle that’s incredibly clunky.
With these two, it is more of the nostalgia factor than anything else that will make you listen. It’s hard to resist their shared past even if their current work isn’t that great. It is one of those songs that your mom is sure to love if she’s anything like mine because she listened Newton-John back in the day and had a crush on Travolta. Ahh the good old days.
