12. CeeLo Green & Christina Aguilera
The beauty of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is the combination of singers that get put together to perform this little ditty. Sometimes the choices are very interesting, like this one. You wouldn’t think a duet between former The Voice coaches CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera would work, but somehow it does.
The pair’s voices complement each other perfectly. Aguilera has a sultry and powerful sound. She hits every note perfectly. Green is more understated, but he holds his own with an equally strong performance. His voice is low and smooth, he really helps give the song its jazzy feel. It’s almost surprising how great his voice sounds here if you are used to only hear him sing “Forget You”.
The instrumentation of this version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with the opening horns to the piano and drums compliment the vocals without overshadowing them. It gives the song just the right amount of punch. And it swells to a great ending.
Both Green and Aguilera inject a fair amount of emotion into the words as well. You can tell they have chemistry, which helps lessen the song’s creepy factor if that exists for you. It’s really about the way artists sing this song that helps inform how you feel about it. If they sound like they have a history together, it makes it seem more like they are in mutual agreement of wanting to stay rather than the guy working to convince someone he just met.
