23. Galavant

One of the more family-friendly shows on this list is Galavant, which sports just a TV-PG rating. ABC cancelled the show earlier this year, spawning a fan campaign to save the musical comedy, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be,

The show follows the adventures of Galavant, your standard fairy-tale-style knight, as he attempts to rescue the true love of his life, who has been kidnapped by an evil king. Before you start worrying that the show plays this all very seriously, remember it’s also a musical comedy.

Yeah, that’s right: a musical series.

It actually features music from the rather well-known Alan Menken of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast fame, so you’ll find yourself humming along with all of the songs, which have a knack for being ludicrously catchy.

Stick with it through the first season to see Kylie Minogue in the second-season premiere, because she gets to sing a song called — and we feel the need to disclaim that we are not making this up — “Off With His Shirt”. It is exactly as great as it sounds.

Galavant has a relatively low commitment level, because there are just 18 episodes to get through, each averaging about 21 minutes. In other words, you could easily power through the entire series in one six-to-seven-hour sitting.

(We neither recommend nor recommend against watching Galavant in one sitting. We’re just noting that you can.)
