25. Black Mirror
Black Mirror might be slightly terrifying or unsettling for a holiday weekend, but holidays can be slightly terrifying or unsettling in and of themselves, right? Anyways, this British anthology series consists of two and a half seasons, with the second half of Season 3 coming as a Netflix exclusive next year. Each episode tells a complete story, with the horror coming from the technology used in each episode. Some episodes, like “Nosedive”, seem like they could never happen, but others, like “Be Right Back” and “Playtest”, are distressingly close to current technology that we have now.
Since the episodes are only about an hour each, and tell concrete stories in that time, you can watch one episode and rest safe in the knowledge that you won’t anxiously sit through a gathering wondering what happens during the next episode.
This series has a low commitment rating, and we’ll explain why. There are only 13 episodes to watch right now, so you won’t have to stay up late on Friday to really get a good head start on Black Mirror. However, you may want to watch it when kids aren’t around. It does come with a rating of TV-MA, particularly with its use of adult language.
