Red Foreman – That 70’s Show
So what that Red Foreman constantly called his son out on his stupidity? Sometimes he really needed it. As a parent to kids growing up in the counter culture of the 70’s, Red never understood his kids’ choices or intentions. Red really only had two children, Eric and his sister Laurie, but he took on the father figure role for many of Eric’s friends.
That 70’s Show was mostly about that group of friends, but they found themselves congregating at Eric’s house and his parents were often part of their daily lives. Eric’s dad Red was constantly befuddled by the things that Eric did and said, and he was never shy about expressing his feelings. Feelings might be a strong word… he expressed his opinions about what dumbasses his children were and often threatened physical violence when he thought they weren’t going to do right on their own.
Red’s tough love tactics make him one of the best TV dads. These days, kids on television are too soft. They are continually told how special they are, how much they deserve, and much they matter. Red Foreman would have none of that nonsense. He would give them a kick in the butt and tell them to get themselves together. The fact is, they would probably really need it.
