23. Mara Jade Skywalker

Set aside your theories about Rey being Luke’s daughter for just a moment. We have already made our costume-based case for that idea, by the way. We’d like to instead introduce Luke’s original Extended Universe wife.

Mara Jade Skywalker spent time working for the Emperor as his Hand, time as a Jedi, and also had a purple lightsaber. As we all know, this honor is not conferred on just any person. Timothy Zahn originally created her for his Thrawn Trilogy. She ended up marrying Luke Skywalker, producing a Ben Skywalker instead of the Ben Solo we have in the sequel trilogy, and also generally being a boss lady Jedi with sweet red hair. There aren’t enough redheads in the Star Wars universe.

With Rey’s parentage likely to be revealed in Episode VIII, the time for including Mara Jade in the new universe is rapidly closing. However, it’s possible that she gets the Grand Admiral Thrawn treatment and gets moved to feature in a series like Star Wars Rebels on a slightly different timeline.

Basically, we just want Timothy Zahn to write a new Mara Jade to fit in the new universe like he is with Thrawn. Help us, Timothy Zahn, you’re our only hope!
