25 Star Wars characters who deserve a spinoff

8. Maz Kanata

Maz Kanata has a castle with a giant statue of herself outside of it, as seen in The Force Awakens. We have no way of knowing who she is, how old she is, or anything about what drove her to make her little haven for smugglers or those looking for information.

We also don’t know how she came by the Skywalker family lightsaber, but we suspect that question will be answered eventually. This is the problem with writing this list before the entire sequel trilogy is out. However, we don’t want to wait until 2019.

What we’d really like to know is whether or not Maz is actually Force-sensitive, or just has a deep respect for the unseen, semi-living thing that helps hold her universe together. Besides, with an actress like Lupita Nyong’o voicing her, we wouldn’t say no to a miniseries. If she turns out to be as old as Yoda, or even half as old as he is, there’s plenty of material there.

Because of her age, Maz could also serve as a great anchor character for an anthology-type series about the seamier side of things in the galaxy. We know we’ve advocated for them plenty in this list, but Star Wars has such a rich universe and enough material to support plenty of them.
