17. Chewbacca

Chewbacca’s appearance in Revenge of the Sith was a nice callback to original trilogy fans who made it that far into the prequel trilogy. However, what on earth did the Wookiee do between Revenge of the Sith and showing up as Han Solo’s first mate / walking carpet extraordinaire in A New Hope?

Depending on what the Han Solo movie covers, we could already say that Chewie will be getting a spinoff. It’s entirely possible that we’ll just get to see Han rescuing him and the life debt being sworn. However, that still wouldn’t fill in all of the gaps for what happened to him.

“But wait,” you may say, “Chewbacca starred in his own comic miniseries! He shouldn’t be on this list!” Yes, he did. However, that same miniseries also doesn’t cover the time period we are still curious about. Chewbacca takes place after A New Hope. We want to know what happened between ROTS and ANH.

Chewie might even be one of the better characters to get a small series aimed more at kids. The only real question might be: if he hasn’t met Han, how do we know what he’s saying? Who knows, the Wookiee might get a new sidekick of his own for translation purposes.
